New HD Video of Mars Helicopter Ingenuity Spinning Its Rotor Blades

Birt 15 apr 2021
This is a High Definition (HD) video of Mars Ingenuity Helicopter unlock its rotor blades on sol 47 and then spinning them at 50 rpm on sol 48.
The video is made by compiling a series of video frames (images) captured by Mars Perseverance rover when the the helicopter was unlocking and spinning its blades.
Ingenuity is currently waiting for a software update.
Also at the end of the video, there is a lates image of Mars rocks captured by perseverance rover while waiting for the helicopter first test flight.

  • Arizona

  • NASA Lies! Dont believe them. They was never on the moon or on the mars. Do your own research.

    • @JeffDunhamVEVO I did my. Do you own research. The Truth will always come out :-)

    • You haven't done any research at all, have you?

  • i love nas hah

  • Fly, baby! Fly! (And land safely)

  • Ha Ha

  • Да вы заипали этм лопасти показывать когда уже фотки будут с видео..

  • Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars. Quizá encontréis allí a David Bowie tocando la guitarra, porque otra cosa no vais a encontrar

  • It need to spin faster for flying. You re welcome.

  • If that thing doesn’t fly , I would run it over with the rover.

  • I wonder how it can fly with no atmosphere. And who was there to take the video of it? Hmm...

    • there is a little bit of atmosphere and the preserverance rover itself took the video, smart ass

  • The robot has already found gold on Mars and diamond!. Does the drone also find gold and diamonds flying over Mars?

  • TAK TAK TAK......TAK TAK!!!!!

  • Now why couldn't NASA make a simple windshield wiper blade for the solar panels? When they know that the planets covered in dust! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out..!

  • Awesome Footage

  • why is it so choppy? do they lower the frame rate to save on data bandwidth?

    • @Jagzeplin: I think this was just a movie stitched together from a series of still pictures.

  • I have a few questions. with such a thin Martian atmosphere, would there be enough lift, even for a paired system of blades? with such a distance from the sun and small solar panels on the "helicopter", will it be able to provide itself with energy? and what kind of equipment can it lift into the atmosphere if it can't lift itself?

  • 1 Month Test for 1 minute flight??? Hmmmm ok!

  • Again the top propeller spins with trailing edge first. I hope that it's only for safety measures and not because of stupidity! (multimillions cost stupidity).

    • I noticed same thing. But maybe that is illusion due slow framerate of video?

  • They forgot to animate the dust in the CGI

    • The rotors were spinning once every second. And the martian atmosphere is too thin for wind to push any sand, smart ass. It's not fake

  • Heyecan verici

  • Just fly the bloody thing before you flatten the battery!

  • Its a dusty planet.... personally I would have made a pitched solar Panel....there is dust collecting on it.....but what do I know ..I left School with One exam...Plenty of common sense though.

  • Wow 2 blades turning. In 400 years we might see something take off. Awesome stuff nasa, you snail.

  • Don't want to hear." Who forgot the D cell batteries"

  • When will the NASA helicopter "Ingenuity" make the jump to Hyperspace, like the ship's in the movie, "Star Wars." ? 🌍 🍁

  • Superb

  • I just find it hard to believe any "Truth" or filter it after the manykills deliberate many kills on this planet....Understand knowledge has been lost and erased so many times by natural disaster, in my short spec of time, but clearly we "Babies" will have to wake up from a reality our "Primitive Ancestors" where educated and aware of we "Fail" to see and recognize! We fail to see what happened. We Think too much where we Imagined less. Knowledge is not "Ours" until it is "Shared" We will erase Ourselves again, or another factor soon will. We are Stubborn, and most easy manipulated, as we complain along the way......asking why? Asking instead of finding. there is ONE just one KEY to solve.....remember where you come from. We are ALL the same all 8 Billion. And to come back, challenge information, hiding behind a cool conspiracy helps nobody.

  • Yes, they (programmers, or designers), that they are completely blind or "stupid" ?! DO NOT see that the upper propeller (screw) rotates in the WRONG direction.....???!!! The screws must rotate TO meet each other !!!!! The upper screw turns in the WRONG direction - that's why I drove sand and other dirt ON the solar panel .!!!?

  • What happens when the wind blows it over? Who rights the toy?

  • More Rocks 😲

  • Be honest ,, the thing ain’t working .. it’s an epic fail

    • it flew 2 days ago. Fucking obviously they would have to test it before they fly with it. No one has ever performed a powerd dlight on that planet ever before

  • 1:28 Proof that there is life on Mars after all!... "Fly on the Rock!"

  • So happy we are spendng 2.9 Billion to look at Rocks,,,, this is truly a smart generation who loves rocks,,, common mannnnnnn

    • @Dima Pagu YOU GOT HIM

    • Oh yes, better spending 934 Billions (only for a year) on U.S. Military right?

  • Look how dusty the solar panels are already, better get that guy to clean them like he did on the last Rover.

  • If NASA drags this out long enough......the Oak Island Guys are going to lose their sponsers.....and SpaceX is going to land next to it....Hand launch it.....and take off again to chase it. Come on Guys.

  • OH MY GOSH JUST FLY THE F*CKING THING

  • What are they waiting for four pounds of dust on it to fly it.

  • Historic achievement. More power to the engineers. 💪

  • In the case of overturning?

  • 🏢🏢🏢✈✈👏👏😆😆😆

  • Hey one question i thought it would fly on april 14th but what has happend?

    • Software problem triggering alert while transitioning between flight modes. Software has been updated, this is the second spin-up test in prep for the first flight.

  • we dont know how lucky we are with a volatile solvent covering most of the planet

  • Now THIS was a video from Mars. The first I have seen.

    • @Kurt Reber I did already, but it disappeared. Here it is again though.. isprofile.info/pac/bZqvm4RrnmWspp0/v-deo.html

    • @GeopioneerGSXR cool. Send me link

    • @Kurt Reber 🤦‍♂️It is all over the internet..🤣

    • @GeopioneerGSXR lol I would have if there had been one

    • You didn't watch the landing?

  • only the best cgi from nasa. money well spent

  • Doesn't qualify as HD. But thanks for sharing.

  • They could have just used a DJI drone. Always works and you can crash these many times. $1,000. vs $80 million

  • Good cgi at end part

  • It won't fly. A total waste of resources.!!

    • @belly tripper Well, both you and Carl were proven WRONG today! 😂 Comes as no surprise though.

    • @belly tripper Oh gee, I'm sooo offended.

    • @E. Rose Right. *KAREN!!*

    • @belly tripper Yeah, we'll see about that.

    • @E. Rose Carl is right.

  • Who cleans the solar panels?

    • @JeffDunhamVEVO "dust devils".... it's like cleaning the windshield with oil! Billions of dollars and no better idea for a clean solar panel? When I put some dust or sand on the screen of my smartphone, the buzzer is good enough to clean it....or something like that.😊

    • Actually little winds and dust devils that nasa literally refer to as "cleaning events". They are what kept the opportunity rover going for so long

  • I want to see it fly already.

  • Wait, the direction of that prop was not right, according to that angle

  • Finally a video. I keep getting baited into slideshows by the others but now I can finally see the thing in action.

  • More american bullshit. like claiming they landed on the moon!! All Fantacy created in secret studios!

    • Grow up kid. Please try to get a job.

    • Jealous much?

  • A dead, cold, barren planet, hardly an atmosphere, no living thing upon it. And a drone. Bollocks.

  • How many more weeks bureaucrats need to sign papers so that this toy can fly around?

  • The top propellers rotates counterwise, to not lift off

    • The blades are angled in the other direction. Obviously, otherwise it would spin out of countroll. It's literally called a counter rotating propeller

  • Are there shadows on Mars??😱

  • Since currently the Rover is not too close to the Ingenuity, how was the first video filmed?

    • You think that the techs would run this thing without being able to watch it really closely? Perseverance has a camera on a robotic arm, it's using zoom to get a close view

  • Everyone so hyped about this. I can't wait for the MOXIE tests. Breathable air from Mars atmosphere sounds a lot more impressive.

    • 30 years you'll be on Mars if you want

  • Come on...if there is an issue, then, just report that. Otherwise, just fly it. What is wrong with NASA engineers?

    • They would really prefer not to wreck it

  • Who could ever dislike this? What is there really to dislike!?

    • Speculation... They are tired of another clone video revealing yet again sights that have been witnessed already, just seems like milking things... Again speculation, i'm personally impatient but understand their need to be anal, only going to get one shot, but then their predetermined useful life is fast approaching, hopefully that was being extremely conservative and it survives many flights.

  • Tá girando errado essas apas ai a de cima assim nunca vai sai do chão

  • Fake

    • @hamster : I'm still not seeing anything. Must be me.

    • @Stabby Dave at the corner

    • @hamster : I'm not seeing it.

    • @Stabby Dave Green sceen

    • @hamster : Again, what am I looking for?

  • Hello

  • Hi

  • Rotors should turn in opposite directions

    • @chlindh1 Simply both rotors turning in the same direction would turn the dron in the same direction. Some chopter have rotors in the back because of that. Popular drones have two rotors moving clockwise and two counterclockwise. Basics.

    • If you say so. Mieczyslaw, you've always been such a clever young man :-)

  • Ma come si fa credere a queste cazzate nasa ....

  • ...New Martian Scrap or New Legend?......but ground control will find a solution !!!!

  • That mumbo Jumbo 'ain gon fly.

    • If you say so, you are probably right. AM, you've always been such a role model to me with your intelligence :-) Wish I could be more like you :-P

  • This is an old video! Dislike for clickbait

  • Very 😌😌😌😌❤😌💙😌💙❤😌💙

  • This is more like couple of photos played in loop rather than a video.

  • les photo a la fin c'est ce que je vois dans mon télescope hahahaha

  • Spinning wrong side

  • Sum small drones would of bein nice.

  • Thank you for the video. I understand that there are extreme environments on Mars but basic robotics and AI? $85,000,000.00 later... {Look, it's wobbling!} yes, I'm grumpy. Not sorry :o my

  • I keep coming back to watch thus Martian landscape.. each time with different emotions.. this time, it’s just a sense of overwhelming serenity, somewhere I want to be just to get away from this earth and the humans!

    • @William WMCQIV funny you shud say this! On thing on my to do list is visit Arizona, especially after watching “ breaking bad” and “ better call saul”! 😀just get a camper and disappear for as long as I can!

    • There’s plenty of Desolate space in Arizona! very similar to the landscape in some areas

  • Enough spinning tests. Get up and go already!

  • Yep! More rocks and more rocks and dirt!

  • It been like a year already trying to fly🙄even the helicopter look like is been there for a decade!! Jaj😭

  • Looks like Mars is also flat like the Earth. 🦇👽🦇

  • Space X would have launched and blown up 10 Mars helicopters by now. What is take you so long?

  • Interesting times we are living in. Thank the powers that be.

  • Why so low fps? Can't perseverance capture even a 720p, 60fps video?

    • @anahatamelodeon It won't be bigger than 10 high quality panoramic images.

    • Quite possibly, but it would take weeks to send it back to earth.

  • Flights already done from our moon

  • Air too thin wont take off.

    • @Ken Pickett Things move very slowly when commands go from Earth to Mars and then the responses are analyzed. Then the next instruction is sent.

    • @Jayy Tee You're correct, I was quoting from my faulty memory. There is only 38% of the gravity on Mars so that will help offset the thin atmosphere.

    • @MrVicDog I thought it was only 1% ....?

    • @MrVicDog Tending agree with Karl B on this. This rover has been on the surface of Mars for 8 weeks now and Ingenuity was dropped off, what, about 2 weeks ago roughly, and all they’ve done is spin the rotors around a few times? Come on. There’s taking your time, and then there’s taking the piss...

    • @Karl B Try to keep up, They are getting it ready. It's not like flying at the park.

  • So excited to bе part of the generation that's attempting flight on another world for the very first time.

    • @abvmoose87 Why would NASA have spent a chunk of budget if they did not believe it could fly? They have successfully tested it in a chamber depressurised to match the Martian atmospheric pressure and it works - the trick is two counter-rotating blades spinning fast enough (approaching supersonic speed at the rotor tips) to lift a lightweight body. The test can be seen here: isprofile.info/pac/rYR4e3iYrZuZqI8/v-deo.html

    • Its fantastic - i watched man walk on the moon live ,then interest stopped 🤷‍♂️

    • No youre not, youre some guy getting payed to write youtube comments. No one from "the generation" talks like that. I've seen the exact same comment VERBATIM on several other Ingenuity videos. Just stop with your disingenuous crap and come out and admit that you cant fly a rotorcraft in 1% of Earth's air density.

    • So what you're saying is it's only one generation that is doing this and not a mixture of generations involved...??

  • Give me the remote!!! I will fly the freaking thing!

  • Come on ingenuity you can do it dear best luck❤️❤️

    • Hey one question i thought it would fly on april 14th but what has happend?

  • Mars sand look like the beach. But it’s cold over there, and no oceans to be seen anywhere.

  • Sắp cất cánh

  • Any piece of rock in this video will cost you a fortune to own one on earth:)

    • @MegaSkills9 I wonder if they cant make it With corona, how will they make it if they bring from a mission buck something dangerous.

    • Like rocks from Pandora!

    • @MegaSkills9 That actually makes sense to sell. What would they be doing with 800 lbs of Moon material other than making a huge sandcastle? I saw an article about a watch that has a tiny moon rock and it sold for a fortune. Government agencies don't have a business mindset and are terrible with money. Oh well...interesting though. Thank you.

    • @Ben G I actually looked in that before because I wondered too. It's because our Government paid for all the costs of the mission and retrieval of the rocks. So in theory...If anyone from the private sector paid all the costs of the mission then YES he could sell space rocks to the public. If were a combined mission though the Government would still be involved. I personally think its stupid to still guard the remaining 800 lbs of Moon rocks. (They went through about 50 lbs to do all the testing they could.) NASA always needs money. They should start selling pieces of them now to the public. The money could be used to help fund the next Moon missions. Then bring back more rocks. Right?

    • @MegaSkills9 What's the logic behind that? And what if Elon brought back some?

  • Хо хо хо это говно не полетит

  • 85 million bucks hope that's not all you got if I just had 1 million I would be a happy chappy ,one hell of a expensive toy helicopter

    • ok it a sophisticated toy

    • 85 million for a toy money could save life's ok why did they become millionaires for their invention why not do it for a wage not a fortune

    • 85 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what gets spent on military and other areas that are not nearly as amazing as attempting flight on a new world. Money isn’t everything, it’s more about the opportunities this will create for the future. Imo you can’t put a price on space exploration it just has to be done. Eventually mankind will have to leave earth or go extinct.

  • I think ﹰEarth used to be like ﹰMars. Nothing there and ﹰGod created the trees and ﹰAdam and ﹰﹰEve who began the journey until today to explore and expand the world bringing technology

  • I love that youtube keeps me informed of Ingenuity!

    • Same! Idk why it is doing it but I'm thrilled

    • it has linux

    • pure genius

    • @ahmed assadi A robotic brain is informing us about a helicopter on Mars. I just wanted to see that in writing.

    • Samee

  • And just as it was about to start flying the onboard Windows 10 computer decided a a new update was ready, and started the automatic download. "System Update in progress, Ingenuity will reboot automatically. We are sorry for the inconvenience!"

    • @Ben Hetland The irony is that the ISS used MS Windows previously, but for obvious security reasons it was replaced with Linux. Hence my cryptic crack at Windows users...( I use both linux and windows)

    • @Lorenzo Di Gaetano Yes, maybe, but it is not wise to open any windows on the ISS ... :-D

    • @Tony Elsom A dark tunnel even if it's full of windows... 😂

    • @Lorenzo Di Gaetano Yep, so is the rest of NASA, including the ISS. Glad to see some light in a dark tunnel here.. 😉

    • Fortunately ingenuity is running Linux!
